The sacred architectural design of Tirta Spa is a fusion of different Asian styles, borrowed from spiritual cultures and temples. With attention given to even the minutest detail, the design was conceptualized by the owner, Ms En Calvert adopting, along the way, a number of the different architectural styles that caught her attention during her many travels. The influences are primarily Thai, Indonesia, Indian and Middle Eastern. She has, of course, also drawn on her own Filipino culture, as can be seen from the ceilings, the cogon roofs, the extensive use of indigenous Narra wood, red bricks from Vigan and Mactan stone. Capiz lights made from oyster shell add the final Filipino touch to this eclectic architectural blend.
Yin and Yang pebbles, which you will notice at each entrance to the property and villas, help to balance or recover our equilibrium. The design of the Tirta gate is borrowed from an ancient Balinese temple. A large Burmese gong sounds at the entrance, announcing your arrival and releasing any bad energy that might be evident.
Guard statues along the pathway then ward off evil spirits. The carved, lava stone relic behind the reception desk is a replica of the original, found in the 9th century Buddhist monument at Borobudur in Central Java, Indonesia. You will see that the Buddha is surrounded by his followers, offering him floral or scented water.
The Japanese Koi carp ponds symbolize affection or love. The Buddha statues, placed throughout the property, symbolize calmness and serenity, whilst the three standing buddhas spitting water represent the God of Water.
At the beginning and end of each treatment, cymbals and singing bowls are used by our therapists to create mantra, or a sound for enhancing meditation. Incense burning in the villas not only creates an exotic aroma, but also serves to drive away demons and release bad spirits.
A visit to Tirta Spa benefits not only those with physical ailments but, equally importantly, those in search of rebalanced emotions and spiritual well-being.
